SBEM Energy Assessment

Energy assessment of Industrial & Commercial buildings is determined using various methods, Simplified Building Energy Model - (SBEM) has been developed by the Buildings Research Establishment (BRE).

This software was developed by BRE to calculate energy ratings for large and complex buildings. The application is usually used in assessment of energy rating of new build industrial and commercial structures, where existing calculation methods cannot be used, for example SAP.

The SBEM method has been adopted as the tool to determine these ratings by CLG (Communities & Local Government).

SBEM calculates the monthly energy use together with carbon dioxide emissions of a building through the input of the building's geometry, the construction methods used, and the use of HVAC (Heating Ventilating Air Conditioning) and lighting equipment which will be installed in the building.

The program can also be used to assess the 'asset rating' in accordance with the EPBD EU Directive.

This method is also used in calculating CO2 emission rates for new buildings for compliance with the new Part L of the Building Regulations (England and Wales) and equivalent Regulations in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

In addition to the above Carbon Checker software has been introduced Southfacing are providers of domestic and non-domestic Part L1 and L2 calculations, using Carbon Checker and other software tools for building design.
